Plane tickets to Denver in July hovering around $200.. ready for the launch party. First ChangelogCon??
I can't promise but I'd try to make it
I'd love to do a Pipely launch party. Sucks to be part of the "screw these people" part of Trump's world in South Africa :P
Also props for chatting to Synadia this early in the CNCF kerfuffle. Very interested. I liked Oxide and Friends' take on it recently
Re, CDN testing: I didn’t get to actually implementing this, but years ago when I want to test how well things like expiring a cached object, change propagation, or edge functions worked in a CDN based system I was evaluating, I looked long at Jepsen.
It’s most known for testing distributed databases and I’ve never seen anyone use it to test a CDN, but IIRC it has a lot of things you’d want baked in like checking to see how long it takes for a write to be reflected in reads and what happens when you try to write while another one is still propagated.
Also, it’s really easy to spin up worldwide distributed test nodes through AWS Marketplace.
Of course you’d have to write a little bit of Clojure, but that’s what LLMs are for, right?
I'm interested in joining a Pipely launch party in Denver
@Gerhard Puting some things straight regarding Varnish Cache, Varnish Software/Varnish+ and Fastly.
Fasly is not running Varnish+ which is Varnish Softwares product. They have their own fork that they run.
Varnish Software has their enterprise Varnish+ that companies can buy to run their own cdn at scale with alot of features that the community does not want to include.
The interesting thing here, I think, is that Varnish Cache is not under the direct control of Varnish Software. The lead developer, phk, of Varnish Cache is not employed by Varnish Software. VS are a a big contributor but it is not a setup where they 100% control the open source project.
@Adam Stacoviak @Jerod Santo you should get someone from Varnish Software or perhaps phk as a guest on a interview session. I have some contacts with Varnish Software so if you are interested I can check with them if they are interested
Also in the episor it sounded like you said that Fastly created Varnish. This is also incorrect, https://www.varnish-software.com/varnish-history/
I was reading the history and the phk connection (or lack thereof) to Varnish Software during the show, but couldn’t get enough of a handle on it all to bring it up with confidence.
I would absolutely love to have phk on the show! What’s the best way to go about that?
Sorry was a bit unclear. I know ppl at Varnish Software but I do not know phk.
That was clear! But my question still stands :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
He has some contact info on his homepage https://phk.freebsd.dk/
Can also check if someone I know knows him well enough to reach out.
I would be interested in the launch party, where's a good place to be on the lookout for the details?
@Jim if you subscribe to Changelog News, there's almost no way you'll miss it.
@Pontus Ullgren Thank you! I'll make sure to set the record straight next time we record. FTR: https://github.com/thechangelog/changelog.com/discussions/546#discussioncomment-13126967
$100 bucks for flights from Minneapolis, but I also have a family roadtrip at the end of July.

I would go the party except that it would cost me an arm and a leg. Also NZ just issued a warning against traveling to the US.
I got behind on listening to this episode but better late than never!
I live in Denver so I would definitely try to make it for a launch party.
BTW, I'm loving the pipely stuff. It's cool getting to hear about how CDNs work.
Lookin forward to seeing folks in Denver!
