Justin Searls from Breaking Change joins the show to discuss Apple's Intelligence blunder, the end of the good times in the tech industry, and POSSE Party, his in-progress product that lets "any dummy with a website enjoy a life of algorithm-free luxury." :link: https://changelog.am/85

Loved this episode!
I’m totally with you Jerod on the LLM usage. Ideal for the “I would have searched stack overflow instead” use case.
Yes this has been highly productive for me and an easy habit switcher

Imaginary conversation at Apple:
Hey do you think we can run one of these LLMs on an iphone?
Well if we used a stripped down model and quantized a bit we might be able to.
Great! Let's make the announcement, we'll brand it "Apple Inteligence!"
..... Three months later
Well we got it running give it a try.
No you can't talk to it, you can only type because voice recognition is too slow.
No you have wait, it's kind of slow in responding, it's only the one billion model.
Oh and China won't allow AI developed outside of China so we can't use it in that market.
....
This looks bad, I have an idea! Let's just use the OpenAI api, that won't require any resources and it will be fast enough. We'll use the AliBaba AI in China.
Yea let's ship that, nobody will know the difference.
:palm_tree:…how far the apple has fallen from the tree…:apple:
I was waiting for the woof reference but it never came :(
