We make many improvements to Zulip beyond what we can share here. Learn about additional feature highlights, and other Zulip project updates since July 2024, in the blog post announcing today's release of Zulip Server 10.0.
Starting this week, you’ll get Zulip’s next-generation mobile app the next time your Zulip app is upgraded. The new app offers a sleek new design and a faster, smoother experience. Check out the announcement post for details and how to share your feedback.
whoah! new zulip app!
looks pretty nice, but how do i search for a topic or channel? feels like i have to learn how to use this thing again.
Search is currently in progress, tracked in #mobile > search and supposed to be released by next week.
So.. just a quick question... is it intentional that all of our emails are essentially public to each other on here? :grimacing:
I doubt it's intentional
In Settings -> Account & privacy, under Privacy, last item for me is Who can access your email address and I have Admins only selected. I guess Nobody or Admins only should be the default in our case, but I don't know whether that's something admins can change on their side and who will that apply to (probably only new members).
I've recalled I have a toy Zulip cloud instance, so I checked. Under Settings (Organization) -> Default user settings -> Privacy settings it can be set to any option available to user themselves. It says on top "Configure the default personal preference settings for new users joining your organization." so this will only change the setting for new members.
we should probably set this :see_no_evil: is there a way to tag mods on here?
Only directly, if I'm not mistaken. @Jerod Santo, @Adam Stacoviak
Oh wow. That is not a great default setting.
ok switched the default to "Admins and moderators" thanks for the heads up @Chris Manson @Maroš Kučera
All credit goes to Chris. Judging from the fact I already had the setting changed before, I must have found it a long time ago and changed it, but not raised it as a potential improvement :innocent:
i think the default only applies to new signups, I wasn't aware of this visibility setting until seeing this thread and noticed mine was still public
Is there a way I can mass-edit everyone's setting and make them private? Or do I send out an email telling folks about the setting? What's the best move here?
is there a way to ask Zulip to help?
Probably! @Alya Abbott can you help with the above discussion?
We should be able to do a mass-update for you. Probably makes sense to just update users who never changed the setting, and only to make it more restrictive (not less).
Can you email support@zulip.com with info on what you'd like the setting to be updated to (e.g., nobody can see emails, only admins can, etc.)?
We're also updating the default configuration to make it be contingent on what type of organization you have.
The current default makes sense for teams but less so for communities!
Mobile updates
We've been hard at work adding the most highly requested features to the next-generation mobile app released in June.
