• You can now start a new conversation from the left sidebar. Click the + button next to the name of a channel to start a new topic in that channel, or the + next to DIRECT MESSAGES to start a DM.
• The user list now shows recent participants in the conversation you're viewing.

• Most permissions in Zulip can now be granted to any combination of roles, groups, and individual users. Previously, permissions were configurable only by user role.
• Creating new user groups now requires a Zulip Cloud Standard or Zulip Cloud Plus plan.

• Pasted message links are now automatically converted into nicely formatted links.

• Zulip channels have a new space for chatting without a topic (e.g., social chatter or one-off requests). Channel messages sent without a topic (if allowed in your organization) now go to a special “general chat” topic. Its name appears in italics, and will be translated into your language.
• New channel permission settings let administrators delegate channel management responsibilities. There are settings for who can administer each channel, and who can subscribe and unsubscribe other users. You can also give users and groups permission to read and subscribe to a private channel, just like everyone other than guests can do with public channels.

• When you copy a Zulip link and paste it anywhere that accepts HTML formatting (e.g., your email, GitHub, docs, etc.), the link will be formatted as it would be in Zulip (e.g., #channel > topic.
• To link to a topic in the channel you're composing to, you can now just type #> followed by a few letters from the topic name, and pick the desired topic from the autocomplete.
• There's a new compose box button for creating a collaborative to-do list.
• You’ll now see a typing notification when someone is editing a message, not just for composing new messages.

In Settings -> Account & privacy, under Privacy, last item for me is Who can access your email address and I have Admins only selected. I guess Nobody or Admins only should be the default in our case, but I don't know whether that's something admins can change on their side and who will that apply to (probably only new members).

I've recalled I have a toy Zulip cloud instance, so I checked. Under Settings (Organization) -> Default user settings -> Privacy settings it can be set to any option available to user themselves. It says on top "Configure the default personal preference settings for new users joining your organization." so this will only change the setting for new members.

i think the default only applies to new signups, I wasn't aware of this visibility setting until seeing this thread and noticed mine was still public

Is there a way I can mass-edit everyone's setting and make them private? Or do I send out an email telling folks about the setting? What's the best move here?

We should be able to do a mass-update for you. Probably makes sense to just update users who never changed the setting, and only to make it more restrictive (not less).

Can you email support@zulip.com with info on what you'd like the setting to be updated to (e.g., nobody can see emails, only admins can, etc.)?

The current default makes sense for teams but less so for communities!

• Permissions to move and resolve topics can now be configured separately for each channel.

Mobile updates

We've been hard at work adding the most highly requested features to the next-generation mobile app released in June.

• You can now search for messages in the mobile app.
• You can now see other users' availability and status, and toggle invisible mode.
• You can check who reacted to a message, and when each message was sent.

• There are two new options for where you navigate by clicking on a channel name in the left sidebar: a list of topics in the channel, or the top unread topic.
